Join the Gippsland Symphony Orchestra for a vibrant celebration of music, community and collaboration, bringing together GSO musicians, local young performers and the wider Gippsland community.

The concert opens with British composer Joseph Holbrooke’s Three Blind Mice Variations, transforming a familiar nursery rhyme into a witty, colourful and surprisingly sophisticated orchestral adventure. The orchestra then turns its attention closer to home with the world premiere of Kees Dogger’s Bairnsdale Suite, a new work inspired by the landscapes, stories and spirit of Bairnsdale.

The first half continues with performances by young musicians from the region featuring Crashendo, South Gippsland Dragonflies and Gippsland Youth Symphony Orchestra before the second half brings generations of musicians together in a special GSO and youth side-by-side performance of Ennio Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe. Made famous by the film The Mission, this beautiful and deeply moving melody has become a symbol of connection, hope and the power of music to transcend boundaries.
The concert culminates in a spectacular concert suite from Georges Bizet’s Carmen. From the instantly recognisable Prelude and Habanera to the swagger of the Toreador Song, the wild energy of the Danse Bohème and the triumphant Les Toréadors, Bizet’s music delivers passion, colour, drama and some of the most memorable melodies in the orchestral repertoire.
